August 30, 2010 Welcome to Kindergarten! I am excited to have your child in my class. It is going to be a fun year for the entire family!
Here is some important information that will help the year run smoothly: Backpacks: If possible, send your child with a backpack that zips closed. Papers have less of a chance of getting misplaced. Supplies: During the year a “supplies needed” list will be posted out side of the Kindergarten room in the multi-purpose area (where the lunch area is). Label Clothing: Please label all of your child’s jackets, backpacks, sweaters, etc. All unmarked clothing will go directly to the lost and found. Illness: If your child is ill, do not write a note. Instead, call the school office directly at 257-2338 to let the attendance clerk know. Drop-off/Pick-up: The class session is from 8:15 to 2:20. Children may arrive to school 10 minutes before school begins. It is helpful if you arrive 10 minutes before school is dismissed at 2:30 so that it is certain that each child has safely left with his/her guardian. Children may be picked up from the picnic tables in front of the kindergarten room. Name Writing: Encourage your child to write his/her name using a capital letter at the beginning and lower case letters for the rest. This is a good habit to form. Appropriate Dress: Some activities we do at school involve paint, glue and other “messy” materials. Please keep that in mind when dressing your child for school. During cold weather, please send a jacket with your child. On Tuesday and Thursday bring shoes appropriate for P.E. Snack: Please send a small healthy snack with your child each day. A small juice or water may be included. Lunch: Hot lunch is provided by the school for $2.50 each and individual milks for $.30 each. Of course, a cold lunch may be brought if desired. Students pay for their lunches in the office before the first bell. Homework: Homework packets (“Friday Folders”) will be sent home every Friday and need to be returned the following Thursday. All work needs to be completed and neat! Homework completion will be reflected on your child’s report card. Discipline: Kindergarteners will be “practicing” the rules that are followed at Richmond Elementary school. I will offer a great deal of praise for all of their efforts and hard work. Usually, this type of praise is all that is needed at the kindergarten level for great behavior during the day. If any behavior does become repetitively inappropriate, we will inform the student’s family. Otherwise, assume your child/children have had a great day in school and acted age appropriately. Parent/Teacher communication: I feel it is important to be available for questions or concerns that your family may have during the year. I can receive an e-mail at richmondk@richmondelementary.com or be reached at the school by phone (257-2338). Telephone/E-mail Tree: It is always great to establish a support system or call other parents when you need to know something that they might have an answer to. If your family would like to be included in this telephone tree than permission to share your family phone number/e-mail address with other parents is needed. Please fill out the form below, detach it, and return it in the “Friday folder.” Thank you. I look forward to a wonderful year! Mrs. Amy Hunrath
