Mrs. Vossler jvossler@richmondelementary.com Dear Parents, I enjoyed meeting you during Back-To-School night. If you were unable to attend, please stop by after school. This is a wonderful class with outstanding parents and I'm looking forward to a terrific year. Our classroom rules are as follows: 1. Be a good listener. 2. Be nice to others. 3. Follow directions. 4. Use good manners. 5. Keep your hands and feet to yourself. Consequences: Step 1 - Stop and think Step 2 - Miss 5 minutes of recess Step 3 - Miss whole recess Step 4 - Note home/see Mrs. Nellums We have a behavior chart and students that do not follow the rules will pull a card. There is only one card and it is moved to a different pocket for each step. Please do notpunish your student if they get their card put in "stop and think." It is just a warning. Every Monday a homework packet will be sent home. It will contain 2-4 decodable booksto practice during the week, math practice pages, and spelling (the end of September). Also included will be any unfinished work to be completed. If for some reason your student cannotcomplete the homework, please send a note or give me a call. We are going to have our reading incentive program again this year. For the parents that are new to Richmond, there is an assembly once a month to recognize the students that have completed a benchmark. First graders must read 8 hours to complete a benchmark. Our theme this year is Name that Genre! Reading logswill be in the Friday folder. Record any reading you do at home - decodable books, bedtime stories, literature books, computer programs, etc. First graders have 118 decodable books to read. These books will come home in the homework packet. Please practice the books with your student until they can read them fluently, sign the cover, and return to school. We keep track of the books and reread them before sending home for good. Stickers are on the ones can be kept. There are two school parties, a Thanksgiving Feast, Chinese New Year, and 100-Day celebration. I divide the class into groups to bring refreshments for each event. When it comes time for your turn I'll send home a note and ask you to contribute. If there is a particular occasion you'd like to help with just let me know. Many of you have asked about birthdays. If you want to send in a class treat that is fine. Please keep it simple. I can only pass out birthday invitations if everyone in the class has been invited to the party. On Friday a envelope with all graded work, Mrs. Nellums' newsletter, and a "progress report" will come home. The "progress report" has information on your student's behavior, what we are working on in class, and information on classroom events. You do not have to return it to school unless I have asked you to sign it. Please keep all corrected papers and return work that needed to be finished. It is important to label all sweaters, jackets, etc. Our lost and found is in the multi.
